Acts 1 is a history of the narrative of the acts of the apostles as they experience the life of the Lord in their mist. They proved Jesus was alive and lived before them as a representative of God love, mercy and grace. It was with a lot of feeling that they saw Him tried and found to be a blasphemer, for they thought he was going to reign and rule. But he did not instead, allowed Himself to be crucified at the hands of governmental power Rome. He was taken from the cross and buried in a tomb and after three day rose again and appeared to the people for 40 days continuing His ministry. What a story that God was giving to the word for His Son was getting ready to reveal the Holy Spirit that was going to enable the Church to be the Church of the redeemed! They witnessed the death of Judas and the electing of Matthias and now they getting ready to experience the greatest miracle of all times.
The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which [a]He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many [b]infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
The Holy Spirit Promised
·       And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Here we are seeing Theophilus spoken of and he was dedicated as a pupil who was excellent in wanting Gods best for His life, as he was committed to the LordS will and ways. He was called by Luke, one that excelled in his relationship to God and wanted us to know how important we all are to the Lord. God sent His Son Jesus, so everyone of Hs creation could receive empowerment for service in the Kingdom of Gods battling the forces of this world. The Gospel here is called the former treaties, which He had made perfect, so we can work at being perfected in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. May we never forget we are building upon the solid rock that God began with the Law, now Grace is beginning to show us how to labor for our good, as we study and accept all the Lord has for us today, as we built upon the solid foundation. You and I can’t improve what God has begun, what we have to do is accept what God has provided to us all to achieve our potential.
The Lord taught and did what He taught, so He is our example of how then shall we live? He was empowered by the Holy Spirit and wants His Church to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, so we may continue on bringing good news to our world. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were gifted by the Holy Spirit, before the Holy Spirit was poured out upon all in the upper room. Jesus is getting ready to give the Church the added benefit of His Holly Spirit, as He is getting ready to go up into heaven. The truth is explained here in the 3rd verse to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many [b]infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. Mark says, in 16:19 the Lord being received up into heaven as does Like 24:51. The Lord continued to teach to the last till He was taken up to seat at the right Hand of God to intercede for us all!
Jesus revealed Himself alive, He had proof he was infallible, He walked and talked with them, He ate and drank with them, He showed his hands and feet and His side which was the greatest proof, so all sorrow could be done away with. 40 days is a long time to condescend and show compassion as our High Priest, showing he felt for them and us yet today.
Here He is finishing His work and ready to breath on them to open their eyes to believe and receive the work they were commanded to do, as servants of the Kingdom of Gods. He gave them commandments from the Holy Spirit, which He Himself fulfilled to go and preach the things pertained to the Kingdom of Gods. He gave them a general idea of that Kingdom and the time it should be set up in this world. The nature of the Holy Spirit was the kingdom of Grace being ushered in and glory of Gods covenant of love and justice for all.
Jesus wants to prepare us to receive the Holy Spirit we were designed for, He tells them in secret what they must do. He did not entertain them with politics or the Kingdom of Men, or the philosophy, or the Kingdom of nature, but pure divinity and the Kingdom of Grace. Here He was getting ready to leave them, but wanted them to experience the personal presence of the Holy Spirit that would never leave them.

They were given the assurance this would happen shortly verse And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” This happen in the Mountains near Galilee and now they must return to Jerusalem and not wait there, which caused them to wonder what He was going to do next. Look what is going on today, we do not like to wait upon God, but when we do, our faith and hope in God becomes so real as we worship and reverence God to answer our prayers. Look at Daniel 9:3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.  Daniel knew the power of waiting upon the Lord to answer his concerns. Now here the Disciples are in Jerusalem, waiting upon the Lord for the promise to the Mother, Church. Jerusalem is where Christ was put to shame and is now going to be where the Holy Spirit was given to help us when persecuted and hated. We can be glad God never leaves us, He is always ready to empower us with His Holy Spirit. God forgave His enemies as He said, Father forgive them, they do not know what they are doing. We are exposed to more evil in our world than any time, but God's Holy Spirit is making Himself very real as many are finding the empowerment of the Holy Spirit assisting them in their Persecution. The Disciples are now more than ever going to be viewed by the public in their character, of attitude and behavior and are going to need a personal encounter with Gods Holy Spirit. Jerusalem was going to be the fittest candle stick for the lights to come on.
I remember growing up in a home that loved the Church and we did not miss a day the Church was open, regardless weather, or other circumstances present. We used to have revival services for several weeks at a time and we would not miss a service, for the presence of the Holy Spirit was real and manifested by people being filled with the Holy Spirit and shouting and praising the Lord, even falling prostate before the Lord. We saw many people healed and set free of bondages, so you did not want to miss out on the blessing of Gods love. In the winter when snow was deep we still got to church when the spring thaw came and our gravel roads became impassable by car, dad would take us in a trailer pulled by a tractor. Now that was dedication and I trust we today see the need for what God wants to do in our generation, to up lift us during this time of coronavirus. Then we had camp meeting at the fair Grounds and the Holy Spirit was very impressive, for many people gathered after the service to wait upon the Lord at the altars, for they were always open for people to come and worship and praise the Lord. It seems like the older we became we got more comfortable in our relationship to God that we did not need more of the Lord. This not only happen here in our valley, but around the United State in the 40’s and early fifties.  Lord help us to want more and more of your Holy Spirit in our lives, so we can rejoice and be glad in what God is doing in or lives.
The Holy Spirit wants us to realize God is in control to allow us to be concentrated to the sacred function of God assurance of healing during this Pandemic of Coronavirus. We need to be sanctified by the truth, so our souls conscience can know right from wrong as Apostles. Just as Moses was baptized in the Cloud by day and the fire by night, we need to be connected in the Holy Spirit of Gods love, mercy and grace. We can’t; God can deliver us by the gift of the Holy Spirit, It is promised by our Father God, given to us by His Holy Spirit, as we are born again. Temporal things are given by providence, but the Spiritual blessing are given by promise. What a legacy we have been given by Gods grace and it should not be a mystery but sure.
It is by God grace we received by faith as hands are sometimes laid on us and we respond to Gods spirit of empowerment, as we are adopted into Gods family. For He adopted us into His promises. He has given the Spirit as the Father of lights, Father of spirits and Father of mercy. For the Spirit is coming as we wait. We need to accept the Promises of God and be encouraged to depend upon the Lord for in Him all the promises of God are yes and amen. For God is going to make it good for all as we let Him.
Just as God predicted John the Baptist would baptize in water, but He that comes after would Baptize you with the Holy Spirit. What an Honor to John, for now He not only quotes His words, but makes this gift available to all who wait upon the Lord. What a comforting thought to all His messenger, to now be able to minister with honor, to employ others to be empowered, telling the good news; Jesus saves keeps and satisfies as we trust and obey God’s love, so you can intercede to God on the behalf of others. God’s Spirit is the best of preachers, preaching to us.
This gift of the Holy Spirit was prophesied as we wait, is given by God to accomplished that which was to come, so we should not be looking for another. He did not tell them a specific day, but to keep every day in a frame of mind necessary to receive. God has given us proof of His power over and over again and is going to fulfill His promise, that we might receive power as proof God is in control of fulfilling His word. To be Continued!
