Achieving Your Potential Part 7

What a week for the United States Vice President as he continues to accept his responsibility of shooting his friend Harry Wittington, pray for Dick Cheneyís family, that this self inflicted night mare will be able to make him a better man, husband, father and leader.

We just received word that 1800 people could have died in a mud slide in the Philippines, pray for the survivors that they will be able to achieve their potential though all this.

We never know what is going to happen next on the national scene and need to be prayed up, so we are ready for whatever in natural disasters.

Today we have virtual reality games and entertainment of all kinds and it puts you into the realm of the real, but itís only a helmet, or screen. Lord help me to understand that I have to have the helmet of salvation on, to see that you are the answer, for all that would war against my spirit within me.

Now Gideon is faced with putting together his army and he is in the natural and wants many on his side. But God had a different plan, He did not want people to think it was because of who they where, or are. Everyone that is fearful you can leave, 22,000 left and only 10,000 remained. The Lord said, still to many, bring them all down to the water, everyone that laps like a dog, let them set by themselves. 300 hundred lapped and the rest got on their knees and drank with their faces in the water.

What marks the true Church to day, is it not people that are lapping up the Word of God, feasting upon it to know how to live, rather than wanting to do what they want with people. Is your hand in the Word of God plowing and not looking back, but forward to what God is able to do. We have Churches that are doing fearful things, not preaching holiness, being a part of the world, acting like they have a right to sin. Then we have Churches today that are so involved in modernism, that they have become humanist, and do not want to hurt a flea.

Then we still have Protestants; that are protesting evil within religion, government and our economical system. Standing upon the Word of God and practicing it, by loving mankind, teaching the Word and correcting those who are not abiding in the vine. Lord help us to not lose the power to discipline those we love.  The Church today needs to stand up as against those that are unaccountable for ministry. That is the reason for Robertís rules of order, people canít just do what they want to, or everyone suffers. Rules of conduct are in the Bible and when we understand people rejoice, if we do not understand the power of discipline we all suffer. In the multitude of counselors there is wisdom.

Now Gideon has only 300 men with jars in one hand and a trumpet in the other, what a motley crew, but God. Gideon divided the men into three companies with a trumpet in their hand and a pitchers with a lamp in it. Now notice the pitchures and see how you respond with your emotions. Gideon says, what I do, you do. That is hard, for one has to empty himself of selfishness including Gideon the fearless leader, remember?

When I blow the trumpet, you blow your trumpets on ever side of the camp, and say, the sword of the Lord and Gideon. Now here they are outside the camp of the enemy and they blow the trumpets, brake the pitchers that held the lamps and cried, The sword of the Lord and of Gideon, and the enemy ran, crying and fleeing. I wonder who is our enemy? How do we get victory over the areas in our lives that rob us of the joy of the Lord? Or The peace of God, that passes understanding? Do we not have to make sure that we empty everything we have been blessed with and turn it all over to the Lord to use?

We listen to the Super Bowl Christians interviewed by Mike Barber and other Pro Athletes and one theme that ran though them all was; God has given us the ability to compete and we are representing the Lord, "We canít, He can attitude", as we obey the Lord. That takes discipline to practice and practice until we feel comfortable in what God has given us. PERFORMANCE is the mark of a winner, or one achieving his/her potential.

I wonder are you able to reach your potential because of who you are, or is it because of who God is?

How we value ourselves will be determined by how we talk to ourselves, either positively, or negatively. How do we act? How do others evaluate us in the way we act? Everyone seems to be stimulated by the mental picture they have of who they are. How do I react to my evaluation? Or others evaluation of my experience, or performance?

This will either re-enforces a positive, or negative subconscious self-image, or attitude of how I feel about myself.

My Self-image is the regulating mechanism that controls future performances. If we understand the concept, ďMan moves toward and becomes like that which he thinks about.Ē

Can you see how powerful self talk is in structuring self image, or self esteem? Deut 28:67 (NKJV) says,  In the morning you shall say, 'Oh, that it were evening!' And at evening you shall say, 'Oh, that it were morning!' because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see. That is what I see in the jail many times, people wanting to sleep there troubles away all day, and play at night.

Job 15:20 (NKLV) says, 20 The wicked man writhes with pain all his days, And the number of years is hidden from the oppressor. Are you seeing what happens when we dwell on the negative?

Psalms 107:17 (NKJV)  Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted. Do we ever fall into the trap of being foolish in our performance as Christians? What do we do? Forget it and hope it will go away, or do we say Iím sorry?

 Prov 13:15-16 (NKJV)  Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard.
16 Every prudent man acts with knowledge, But a fool lays open his folly. Good understanding is having the ability to perform properly both in the natural and subconscious.

Romans 2:1-11 (NKJV) Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
2 But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds":
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;
8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath,
9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;
10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.

Are we seeing the need for help in every area of our lives and weíre working out our salvation, with fear and trembling?
