                                    Tasty Ted Bits

Pastor Jon Oletzke is giving a series of messages this Month from CS Lewisí book Narnia.

The opening thought was what is in the box, which represented a gift?

Do we ever know what is ahead of us? Do we really understand the gift the Lord has given to all mankind this Christmas season?

What are we looking for as men and women in this world we live in? There is a Kingdom of this world and a Kingdom of God on this planet earth. Just as CS Lewis wrestled with the way his father treated him as a professional man, he wrestled with God as a young man.

It seems like everyone at one time or the other wrestles with God, until they come to accept the Gift of eternal life, which begins as soon as we turn our lives over to God and stop questioning God.

When we do not accept the gift we suffer the consequences of sin. As I work with people incarcerated in Yakim, I understand just a little of what sin does to the human heart. Not only does sin effect men in jail, it affects people throughout the world that are locked into the prison of sin.

Satan in the very beginning wanted to let Eve know, if she took of the forbidden fruit she would be just like God, ever since man has tried to do his thing with no regard for the consequence.  We make comments like donít tell me what to do! Who do you think you are for questioning me? Letís be careful we understand being made in the image of God means to choose what is right.

                                                   Culture

We are living in a culture that tries to convince us they are always right and we have to suck it up and just deal with it.
Letís not give our emotions any happiness by wanting something better, just because itís advertised as you need it to make you happy! Do we need,  that other car? Do we need, that new improved computer? ďJust do itĒ, is the motto society likes, for then we do not have to be responsible. Letís get on with it and give our best any way, so we are not victims of our cultures society. It seems like our culture wants to make us depressed and if you donít have the latest gimmick; youíre not happy.
This dissatisfaction sells products and it abounds in all areas of our
culture. We are not happy with what we have, we need more. New developments are needed and are revealed daily in computers, cameras, ipods, golf clubs, cars, and many other products.
The thought of, I want one causes us to buy, and what we need to see is, do we really need one? This is a pitiful way to live. The Bible say Godliness with contentment is great gain. We have three areas of we need to be aware of.

    Thanksgiving

Here we are celebrating Thanksgiving remembering where we came from, England and how delighted we were for the help of the Indians. Who were able to talk to these English men, prepared them a feast and taught them how to plant and grow crops? What a sense of love shown to them by strangers in a new land. That is cause for thanksgiving, for these Englanders were in need of help. Many starved and got sick from the journey to the Americas, but God had a people reaching out in mercy and grace.

I am personally great full for being able to honor Thanksgiving as a National Religious holiday. It is the Lord that gives one the ability to even be thankful for all we are, or hope to be. Today we have so many types of religions and people who proclaim the thought they are right, in not honoring anything to do with Gods blessing those early settlers to this new land. But God is still the way, the truth, and the life and no man cometh to the Lord, but by Jesus, God Son. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit that lives in each man, women and child as He breathes in and through us, as humans. Just as everyone has to breathe to have life, so each one needs to have the breath of the Lord, going forth from there lips, to testify of Gods love, mercy and grace. Thanksgiving is the heart of Christianity and it is love in action, as well as in word.
