Last Sunday I had to call the Indian Police as we had someone laying on the front porch of the Church in a red sleeping bag. I went over and woke him up and he was startled and asked where he was I said in front of the Harrah Assembly of God Church. He wanted somewhere to sleep so let him inside the Church and went home and called 911 and they gave me the Indian police. They came out in about 20 minutes. I was in the house across the way and went out to talk to the officers and let them know I was not able to take him anywhere even though he said, you’re a Church, right? You suppose to help. I said, yes, we do and if one comes and listens and obeys the Lord he will never get into your condition of homelessness and drunken stupor. That is the reason I called the police for now they can help you.
The officer said I have seen him before in worse situations. I also talked to him about accept the Lord and letting the Lord help him in becoming a blessing. Then the officer put in the t he Patrol Car and I talk to him through the window, assuring him we want to help and he needs to come back when sober. I’m not drunk, he said.
I am concern for all on our Reservation regardless of skin color and want all to become a blessing and not a curse, to where they have to be ashamed of what they are doing. Alcoholism is a major problem and I would like all to know God created us to be able to have control of what we eat, drink and do with our lives. We do not have to be under the burden of alcohol, drugs, gambling or any other sins that would defeat us to where we can’t be what God created us to be.
Let’s look at the oldest recover program in history so we can repair the damages of sins addictions.
Having worked in jail ministry since 1955 when those who were arrested of being drunk went into a drunk tank and as a young teen ager I was with an older gentleman talking to them. One of the areas we started with, was we have to accept where we are, and how helpless we are, for in here we are powerless and the offices have the power. We have come to the place where we are unmanageable. We have lost the ability to make good choices and are separated from family and friends and regret in now we are locked up.

Romans 7:17 “I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have a desire to do what is good, but I can’t carry it out”.
We are all powerless when we separate ourselves from God, sol we use dependencies to fill the void caused by that separation.
Notice a few of the unhealthy dependencies: Alcohol, Work or achievement like a work alcoholic, Exercise, Overspending, Sexual addiction-lust out of control on the internet now, Approval of people, Places and thing. Food, tobacco, Control addiction that Dr. prescribe or mental health. Power, religiosity and over spending to name a few.
We use these dependencies to avoid our pain. We are living many times in a fantasy world. Imagination times vividness should equal reality but when your addicted to any wrong to where we can’t see reality of the truth.
May can’t cope with life for our denial keeps us from seeing how powerless and unmanageable our lives have become. This is want causes so many that are addicted to surrender, just give up and stop and give God a chance to correct and give peace and joy in who you are. That is your stopping wrong and sin and finding a solution by accepting honestly in the truth. Your mind is opening to God’s purpose in life willingness to accept His way truth and life that is found in the Bible.
Yes, it is hard for the truth always set one free to perform in a way that brings a satisfaction that all is well with my relationship to God and everyone I come in contact with. We are created with a body we can see and then a soul that you can’t see that has five senses. Imagination, reason, conscience, memory and affection that come alive and is a blessing to all regardless of how they are treated for their Spirits are now alive as they have accepted Gods 5 senses of the spirit God gave to all, faith, hope, reverence, worship and prayer.
So, who you think is your God is who you’re going to become like. Ask, seek and knock and your find victory again and again over unhealthy dependencies.
